Myles Jones sent to the Redwoods in Historic Trade

The first week of the Off-Season Trade Window was fairly quiet. That was before The Insider, Mike Commodore, a former NHL Stanley Cup champion, tweeted that the Redwoods and Chaos were swapping Myles Jones and Sergio Salcido in what would be the biggest trade in league history up to this point, and the first of the Off-Season Trade Window. Three days later, it happened.

To get Jones, the Redwoods had to send 2019 All-Star Sergio Salcido and their second-round pick (#13 overall) in the 2020 College Draft. This was the first time that a draft pick higher than round three has been traded, and with the path that it seems the league is taking, I would bet that this is not the last.

Redwoods head coach Nat St. Laurent supported the deal by saying that the team was planning on targeting a midfielder with the second-round selection, but instead of waiting until April and hoping that the guy they wanted fell to them, he decided to make a splash in the trade window. Jones is a 6’5”, 240-pound machine, and he’ll be joining a midfield group that includes Sergio Perkovic, Brent Adams, and Joe Walters.

Salcido will join a Chaos midfield unit comprised of Deemer Class, Jake Frocarro, Kevin Buchanon, and Eric Scott. Salcido was left unprotected ahead of the Expansion Draft and was not taken by the Waterdogs.
